HAITI SERVICE PDF Print E-mail

The W.E.S.T. team traveled once again to Haiti to provide service to our long time friends in the area known as St. Rock, a suburb of the Carrefour area near Port au Prince, the capital city.

St. Rock is close to 3,000 feet above sea level. This location was identified as the epicenter of the earthquake last year and the large Catholic church at the village was damaged and the associated cemetery was destroyed.

About a mile from the epicenter is the much smaller protestant Mount Herman Church and school buildings that we assisted in constructing during the 1990's. These buildings were also damaged.

The church leaders made the decision to completelyThe new foundation demolish the original 170 square meter structure and enlarge to a, 1,800 square meter building to accommodate the larger attending membership.

Our assignment was to work with the church members and assist in rebuilding the church.  The local folks prepared the foundation and we participated in setting needed reinforcing steel in preparation for the placing of the concrete foundations and columns.  The local workers will continue on the structure until complete. We will plan to return as the time and weather permits to continue assistance until the church and school are restored.
